It is good to see the mendacious slanderers of Bishop Strickland refuted by one who worked closely and fruitfully with him during his admirable episcopal tenure.

This gets down to the meat of the scandal, doesn't it?Wosbald wrote: ↑18 Nov 2023, 01:37
How could Bp. Strickland hope to pit one facet of The Deposit of Faith against another facet? That's like pitting Scripture against Church Councils. We've seen where that goes.
As I said, there's no Deposit of Faith in the sense Bp. Strickland needs there to be in order to save his bacon.

With respect of the Latin mass, for example, how can Francis pit his magisterium against Benedict's magisterium and not expect scandal?
But before throwing more gas on the fire, I want to know what exactly Pierre told Strickland.
All we have now is hearsay, which the press has run with.

I'd also like to hear Cardinal Pierre's response. But we are dealing with weasels, so who knows what to think.Hovannes wrote: ↑18 Nov 2023, 07:16This gets down to the meat of the scandal, doesn't it?Wosbald wrote: ↑18 Nov 2023, 01:37

Bishop Strickland was removed from his office.
There were many bishops guilty of covering up pedophile priest abusers and moving them from parish to parish to access more victims. These bishops were not removed from their offices.
Some bishops and even Cardinals were active homosexuals, swirling in rumors during their reigns. They were not removed. Even Cardinal McCarrick was allowed to age out and resign at 75 without humiliation or disgrace.
What has Bishop Strickland done that is so much worse than these?
In order to be removed as bishop, one must be both egregiously reprobate and guilty of canonical crimes.
Or insult a peevish and tyrannical pope who doesn't care about truth, justice, and canon law, and who apparently favors the lavender hierarchy.

I’m humbled & grateful for these people of faith who gathered in prayer & honored Jesus Christ & our Catholic faith. They understand why I’ve been so outspoken, I’m not interested in opposing anyone but I MUST share the Truth that Jesus has revealed to us.

STRICKLAND: “This is not a canonically proper procedure,” said Fr

re Bishop Strickland's removal. “This is not how you should treat a successor of the Apostles...The Apostles were given office by Christ Himself, so were their successors–that's not being respected here.”

This is the essential matter of the scandal:Jocose wrote: ↑25 Nov 2023, 08:02 https://x.com/MLJHaynes/status/1725609815609610657?s=20

1) Canon Law describes various conditions for removing a bishop while respecting the office of bishop.
2) Canon Law reflects the teachings of Vatican II, which affirm in modern terms the ancient respect due to a bishop and his office. A bishop is not merely a branch manager for the pope's supreme autocracy and whim.
-- Pope Francis has overstepped his authority in disregarding canon law and disrespecting Vatican II.
3) Not only is the office of bishop offended, but this action also insults the People of God in the diocese. They deserve some answer or excuse for the removal of their faithful and beloved bishop.
The scandals of Pope Francis are producing bad fruit.
- Catholics who are living sinful lives feel emboldened to rest in their sins.
- Faithful Catholics are tempted to defiance against this Pope and all of his works.
- Bishops (who should be focused on the care of their flocks) find themselves embroiled in political responses, taking sides or not taking sides, and wondering if their heads will be next if they speak boldly as apostles.

He is also immune to being improperly "fired" by a tyrannical pope, as he is an auxiliary bishop -- in Kazakhstan.
Likely Francis can probably impose some annoying, petty sanctions on him somehow. But he has lived through much worse.
