I've been thinking about getting a dog lately. It's been a while since Georgie went paws up on us and she was close to fifteen years old then, so it's been some time since we've been in the market for a pup.

It used to be you could go to any feed store (a real feed store where ranchers would buy veterinary supplies and feed) and often there would be a kid with a box of pups, take your pick, for free.
My Bride rescued our last pooch for a friend's farm, where she'd been booted out of a car and abandoned, shivering, and we found later, pregnant.
I've had a few pound puppies over the years as well, but I've always admired dogs that were a recognizable breed.
Right now, I'm not keen on pound puppies since I know several who came from the pound infected with parvo and that's never a good thing
I grew up with a Collie, and at times we had a Weimaraner, a German Shepherd, and Irish Setters--all great dogs.
When we married, my Bride brought her Basset Hound with her as well as a pound mutt so I sort of married into her pack.
My daughter's Yellow Lab is a purebred rescue and a lovely dog, for which she paid the pound several hundred dollars---not to buy, but to adopt.
Apparently, this is the thing now.
Well, I'm thinking I could buy a dog for that price so I went online to look at puppies---Irish Setter, Scotties, Wirehaired Fox Terriers, Labs, and both Rough and Smooth Collies.
Let's see, a down payment of $500 and anywhere from $1500 to $2000 when you pick 'em up.
That's more than my first car cost!

I'm thinking how can modern families afford Cheerios at $10/box and a dog to teach their children the importance of turning around three times before being seated?
It seems so unfair.

Yes, the price of purebred dogs have double and tripled in cost depending on the breed. It's crazy. Thanks government for taking such good care of our economy.

I refuse to pay $10 for a box of cheerios unless it's an extremely large box, and filled with Cheerios, not just air. There are some pretty large boxes at our neighborhood HEB, I can't recall the number of oz, but the weight is less than 1 lbs, but it still costs way less than $10.

I'd like to blame Biden for everything, but the cost of purebred pets was outrageous 10 years ago, before even Trump was president.

I blame the childless cat (& dog) ladies of the Obama culture. That's when pet parents and fur babies got to be a thing.

I have a co-worker that has been working from home for 3 days, because her husband's dad is ill and the "fur-baby" is home alone at their house...not sick...just doesn't like to be alone...so she is home with the dog!
