The Circle of Life

Post by Hovannes »

One of the girls in my daughter's tight group of friends from high school just got married (the first in the group) a few months ago and is now expecting.
Her dad is younger than I am and he suffered a fatal heart attack while fishing in the mountains. His son did CPR until the paramedics arrived but to no avail. Sad. Very sad.
News travels fast and every girl in her group quickly called up their own father to relate the sad news and also check up on them.
Claire was no exception.
I hope I soothed her fears when I recalled the circle of life, but the event made me think of my own mortality (and the circle of life.)

I probably won't be doing much fishing.

There's worse ways to go, than to depart this world while fishing in the mountains.

You two (Hov and Del) remind me of a young east Texas teen that had boat/motor issues on a Trinity River fishing trip and was forced to spend the night in a swampy river bottom. He was found by search party the next day, and was interviewed by local reporter, who asked the young country boy if he had learned any lessons through his ordeal. "Yes mayam", he replied in his east Texas hillbilly drawl. And what is that?, the reporter asked. The boy replied, "I ain't never goin fishin agin".
The Indians will not bother you now, on account of ... you are touched.

The girl's father passed while doing something he loved.
Not a bad way to go, is it?

His family of course is devastated.
I feel for his son, who has the weight of the world on his shoulders right now and of course, his sweet daughter
who has to add the loss amid the joy of being newlywed and starting her own family.

More people die in bed than fishing in the mountains.

Praying for them all, sir. I'm a little envious of the way the father went out, sure, but it's a shocking thing for his family, a stress on a new marriage, and a grief to his widow and son who must now play a role he wasn't expecting to have.

May peace, love, and healing grace descend on them all.
