Based on the time I've spent on the news-item (which certainly isn't much), it's an outcome of some intra-Jewish tiff as opaque to outsiders as are some intra-Catholic rivalries for those unfamiliar with the inside-baseball.
And since Jews have no Pope to salve the friction of the factions, squabbles can get even messier than their Catholic counterparts.
