The annual neighborhood pick up is coming, so I can stack all the palm fronds and branches of other junk in the street so the City will scoop it all up and take it away.
I did as much pruning as I could with loppers, but eventually needed the 'ol chainsaw to limb the Oaks, Palo Verdes, Desert Willow, Lemon, Quince and Chestnut. I filled it with 2-cycle mix and bar oil and had at it, refueling and adding bar oil whenever the gas tank ran dry..
My "green pile" soon grew to 70'' log x 4' high by the end of the day.
I turned the chainsaw off, only it kept running(!) So I set the chain brake and carried it into the ack yard and set it down on an adobe patio were it vibrated all over the place like it was possessed.
It was mesmerizing!
This went on for a good 20 minutes until the fuel ran dry.
So I named her Christine,
My chainsaw has a name!

A small wire slipped out of a slot behind the kill switch.
No big deal, thankfully.
While I was at the ACE, we found the rigid plastic on the air filter had broken and needed replacing.
I also got the chain sharpened on some kind of fancy machine and took it home
She works swell now.

My father was famous in the family for cutting things that needed cutting using a chainsaw, even if it wasn't the proper cutting tool for the job. He was known as Chainsaw Chuy.

My last dance with Mademoiselle Chainsaw had me wishing for a more powerful, longer running chainsaw than my trusty old MS 250, maybe an MS 261? but my bum shoulder (and the $600 pricetag) convinced me to reconsider.)
The State says we can't burn fireplaces around here anymore, but a chainsaw certainly comes in handy anyway for clearing downed trees.

Why won't they let you burn wood in your fireplace?Hovannes wrote: ↑29 Sep 2024, 16:02 My last dance with Mademoiselle Chainsaw had me wishing for a more powerful, longer running chainsaw than my trusty old MS 250, maybe an MS 261? but my bum shoulder (and the $600 pricetag) convinced me to reconsider.)

That doesn't make any sense.

It can't make sense.
That would be considered illegal here, just like burning wood in fireplaces..

Seriously, though.... Are they afraid that sparks will fly out the chimney and start a wildfire?
Are they afraid that the aroma of woodsmoke adds to air pollution?
Is this cultish faith in climate change and the impact of CO2 emissions from your fireplace?

These article say "air pollution."

Still incredible that the nanny state is situated so intimately in California homes. Can't even light a fire in your own fireplace.
