Nov 10, 1975. 47 years ago, this week.
Two demerits and a refresher course entitled "Remedial Seamanship," Del.

Also double secret probation!
I understand. But IMO the song is some of the best poetry and verse that GL ever wrote.

The song always reminds me of the Texaco Oklahoma, out of Port Arthur, which sank in a storm off of Cape Hatteras. The subject line from a subsequent investigation:
"MARINE ACCIDENT REPORT: STRUCTURAL FAILURE AND SINKING OF THE TEXACO-OKLAHOMA OFF CAPE HATTERAS ON 27 MARCH 1971, WITH THE LOSS OF 31 LIVES. At 0330, March 27, 1971, the tankship SS TEXACO-OKLAHOMA, fully loaded with a cargo of black oil, broke in two, about 120 miles northeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina."
The son of the chief engineer on board lives around the corner from me, and we play golf sometimes. When you know some of the surviving family members it hits home.
The Indians will not bother you now, on account of ... you are touched.

One of the great story tellers. A real poet. Here's a few of my favorites:

This story telling song came up today when I was discussing this morning's Artemis launch - it brought me back to the first Columbia launch which was (re)told in this song by RUSH which I shared with my colleague. I've always thought the song did an excellent job of capturing the excitement and anticipation that everyone felt watching the launch of the first reusable spacecraft. NASA communication peppered throughout.

Wishing you God's very best!

How did I miss this golden nugget of goodness? Time to listen to some cool songs.

Yo, Biff. Get all these songs together and get the rights for them to be combined and published as CPS Songs of Coolness V. 1, mm-kay?

I clicked anticipating badness and disappointment. The first minute was tough for me to get through. But then the story started happening in beautiful prose and imagery.

My fears of bogusness abated and a smile crossed my face as I very much enjoyed the rest of the presentation. Immediately thereafter, I leaned left and farted loudly. Then went and got some bourbon.

Life impacting. True story.
