SCOTUS Decision on Roe Leaked

Post by tuttle »

I'm not going to link anything because this is everywhere.

The gist: Last night Politico dropped a leaked document, the first draft of Justice Alito's majority opinion overturning Roe and Casey, which would make abortion a state issue. Such a decision would automatically make abortion illegal in 13 states, and certainly more to follow.

There are so many angles and questions this could go. I think the main ones are:

1) Does this truly indicate the decision. Being a first draft it surely won't be the final say.

2) How will the leak impact, if at all, the final decision? It may not sway Roe being overturned, but could it lessen the absolute broadside Alito's opinion makes? Will some punches be pulled?

3) Who leaked it and why? Was it a liberal staffer? Was it...dare we even think...a Justice? Given the unprecedented nature of the leak and the enormous ramifications of the decision, it's almost a given it was leaked by someone who opposed the decision.

4) What will happen, nationally, between now and the actual decision? Has a type of national Rubicon been crossed? Could this be the road to civil war?

5) Regardless of how this plays out, it's clear that the rage we've seen heretofore was peanuts compared to the wrath that will likely be unleashed. Even if the left is unaware, abortion is sacrifice to the dark powers and this is a major blow to them. They will not allow it to go quietly. The Church needs to be ready for it.

Never in my lifetime has a leak like this come out of the Supreme Court.

The original report on Politico publishes the full text of Alito's draft document.

https://www.politico.com/news/2022/05/0 ... n-00029473

Chief Justice Roberts verifies that the draft is authentic, while stressing that it is not a FINAL DECISION.

The work of the Court will proceed normally, and there is an investigation underway to discover how this was leaked.

This isn’t really funny, but I laughed. Why? Because it claims that “ This leak is the gravest, most unforgivable sin.”
We’re talking about abortion/choice here, yet the “leak” is the gravest sin. Lol!

No.

It’s really not an issue of chief importance to most Americans. Most Americans, myself included would rather just see fewer abortions chosen. We’re fundamentally opposed to religious wars.

To be clear, I don't want a civil war, but also to be clear, if there is a civil war in which abortion provides the spark, it'd be pretty accurate to call it a religious war.

Let's not fool ourselves either. An argument can be made that a majority of Americans didn't strongly feel one way or another about the issue of slavery until they were pressed upon by those who did (on either side). Leastways in places like Missouri where you hear loads of stories told about people trying to remain as neutral as possible until conflict landed in their lap. After that they either died or fought for one side or the other.

I don't want to get bogged down in those issues, but only use that to illustrate that a majority doesn't have to feel one way or another for major conflict to happen.

I saw the irony too. I agree with tuttle: There is an element of desperate demonic influence at work.

SCOTUSblog doesn't really care about any particular case, one way or the other. They care about the Court. And one vital thing about the Supreme Court: It is the only Institution in DC that doesn't leak. The Justices work through their legal research, and then publish their final decisions and dissents.

This leak will lay a deep chill upon the Justices' ability to trust each other and their young clerks.

There might be some leftist vandalism and terrorist acts, but I don't believe there will be widespread violence. Perhaps in some university cities. Some cells of young socialists can be influenced by demons.

Most of the country, no change. California can subsidize the abortion lobby, as much as they want. Most states are down to just one or two abortion clinics.... most abortion clinics have closed already, and no one missed them. We won't notice when the last one is closes.

The pro-life movement has been very successful in reducing the demand for abortion. The culture is ready to accept an end to Roe v. Wade. I'm looking forward to seeing more states partner with more Christian-run Pregnancy Care Centers, to help more mothers and children in need.

When a Justice cultivates a reputation for hiring the most extreme activist young clerks, she'll draw the most pointy fingers when something goes wrong.
