Rita/Us
Last Thursday morning Rita’s blood pressure crashed. We got to the ER and found several concerns. Late that evening we moved to an ICU bed. Many tests were performed and many therapies provided, but ultimately, the things that were keeping her alive were not sustainable and the underlying problems couldn’t be fixed. I honored her wishes and made plans to terminate her care and say goodby peacefully. I had time to gather most of the kids and grandkids. She was aware enough to recognize them and smile. Around 8pm her medication was suspended and she received comfort meds. The last thing she whispered to me was “I love you”. At 1:30am it was over.
I’m hanging in there and my needs are met. Still pretty foggy some moments, but my people (and the dog) are stuck to me like velcro. All the medical equipment is returned and and my daughter and I have the house mostly back in shape. If I eat all the food being provided to me I’ll weigh 600 pounds.
Thank you all for helping carry me.
