Did somebody say Dire Wolf?
Evidently, the dire wolf wasn't really a wolf. More akin to some sort of African Wild Dog. I've seen a few experts claim we don't really know what they looked like because we've never found one frozen or mummified, only skeletons. The mental image the unextincters had was likely from a video game.

We don't really know that they are actual dire wolves. It's believed by many, from past fossil material research, that the dire wolf is not actually a canius, but aeyncon, making them more related to jackets than wolves. These new puppies could be classified as mutated grey wolves or as a genetically unique species that’s never existed before.
But calling them Dire will certainly market better.
Believe what I say. I spent the entire weekend with a dire wolf obsessed amateur paleontologist grandson and I don't think we ever talked about anything else.

It wasn't me. Anyway, they'd better not turn one of those things loose in east TX, is all I can say.
