Election Thread II: Kamala vs. Trump

Post by Del »

Well, a few days and a few polls have passed since the debate. And even though most say that Kamala won that boxing match, this hasn't translated into any boost for Kamala in the polls.

So Kamala did a 10-minute unscripted interview, 5 questions, with a local TV reporter in Philadelphia. We've finally smoked her out from behind the Teleprompter. See it here:

Kamala Harris First Solo Interview As Presidential Candidate: Economy, Guns, Undecided Voters

She really struggles with these softballs. My summary:

Q. Can you give us a couple of points on how you are going to bring down prices?
A. $25,000 grant to first-time homebuyers

Q: How are you different from Joe Biden?
A: (Total dodge) $6000, one-year child tax credit for family with a newborn child.

Q: What will you do about crime and gun safety?
A: I'm not going to take your guns! And we need a ban on assault weapons.
(No mention of handguns, the overwhelming weapon used in crimes.)

Q: Why is Trump so appealing? What do you say to Trump voters?
A: I'm a unifier. Trump is just divisive. Lots of Republicans like me, like Dick and Liz Cheney.

Q: Voters are just getting to know you. What can you share about yourself that we didn't hear at the DNC Convention?
A: I'm a normal person, just like you. I have friends. I like to cook.

The Right to Migrate / Abortion / Seamless Garment

In the hierarchy of Catholic "Non-Negotiable" moral teaching, not letting people work and receive fair pay is a much greater sin than not inviting people to migrate. Denying work is true a life-issue, much closer to murdering children.

[…]
Hmmm … Let's see what the Pope sez:

⬇️

Anna Matranga (CBS News): With the US elections coming up, what advice would you give a Catholic voter faced with a candidate who supports ending a pregnancy and another who wants to deport 11 million migrants?

Pope Francis: Both are against life: the one that throws out migrants and the one that kills children. Both are against life. I can’t decide; I’m not American and won’t go to vote there. But let it be clear: denying migrants the ability to work and receive hospitality is a sin, a grave sin. The Old Testament speaks repeatedly of the orphan, the widow, and the stranger — migrants. These are the three that Israel must care for. Failing to care for migrants is a sin, a sin against life and humanity.

The only issue in America that is … so clearly evil … is the matter of Life (abortion, assisted suicide, human cloning, etc.).

To put a fine point on it: There is no balance to counter a candidate who expresses full-throated support for abortion and who desires easy, wide-spread access to abortion. There never was a "seamless garment."

No combination of border policy … is good enough to merit voting for a pro-abortion candidate. …

[…]
Again, the Pope sez sumptin about dat.

⬇️

Anna Matranga (CBS News): In your opinion, Your Holiness, are there circumstances in which it is morally permissible to vote for a candidate who is in favor of abortion?

Pope Francis: In political morality, it is generally said that not voting is ugly, it's not good. One must vote. And one must choose the lesser evil. Which is the lesser evil? That lady or that gentleman? I don’t know; each person must think and decide according to their own conscience.

Election Thread II: Kamala vs. Trump

Post by Del »

Trump was a guest on Gutfeld! last night (Wed 9/18)

A mob waving American flags surrounded the Minnesota Gov Mansion during the George Floyd riots, demanding Tim Walz to take action.
President Trump says that the only time he has ever spoken to Timothy Walz was when he became scared when a group of protesters with American flags surrounded the Minnesota Governor's mansion and asked President Trump to save him.

That's very generous of Francis and quite Thomistic when it comes to choosing the lesser evil.
But, if Anna Matranga were an Archbishop and asked Francis for a clarification Dubia he couldn't attribute to Aquinas, she just might get excommunicated.Image

This is too funny!

I remember when Kevin Hart was fired from hosting the Academy Awards because of some jokes he made a decade earlier. This woke up the comedic community.... one of their own, being cancelled for being funny.
Norm McDonald summed it up in a tweet: "Of course, you know, this means war."

So Gavin Newsom signs into law a measure to jail anyone who makes a parody ad about a political figure. (Democrats are immune, because they do do anything funny.)

And 30 seconds later, Gavin Newsom stars in his own deep-fake parody!

Comedy is fierce about defending Free Speech. "Come and take it, Bro!"

Here is the original Kamala-parody ad that triggered Newsom's Democrats to ban such fun:

Election Thread II: Kamala vs. Trump

Post by Del »

Just to mark recent events in the history of this thread:

1) Katrina 2.0: FEMA's sluggish and clumsy response to those suffering from Helene has uncovered Kamala's inability to lead in a crisis -- so obvious that no one can deny it anymore. Trump has been on the ground there most of this week, raising millions of donations for relief. Getting Elon Musk to provide Starling service for those without communication. Kamala was fundraising for her campaign in Hollywood, stopped by the disaster for a photo op.

2) Biden trolls Kamala: Kamala had a rally in Detroit, planning to pump her leading roll in resolving the dock workers strike. Just as CNN was about to break to live coverage, Joe Biden made a surprise visit to White House Press Corps. He took unscripted questions like a pro. He claimed that Kamala was in constant contact with him. She was right there, every step of the way, advancing his agenda for the last 3.75 years. Kamala will be his second term.

This won't move the needle on the polls or anything. Just some sweet revenge for Biden, after being pushed aside and sent to the beach. As Kamala has nothing better than a stupid, lazy campaign, hiding from press questions, with a goofy running mate -- Biden could have done that much himself.

3) Trump's return to Butler, PA: This was epic. Several tens of thousands in attendance. A moving tribute to Cory Compertore. Elon Musk showed up. Trump added Kamala/FEMA/Helene to his list of greatest hits.

Trump brought the house down with his opening line: "As I was saying...!"
