What is your technique for coloring meers? I smoke almost exclusively meerschaum these days and would love to improve my technique if possible.
Currently I just smoke them and occasionally apply a healthy coat of butcher block conditioner. It is bees wax and carnauba wax diluted by mineral oil. I'll let it dry overnight and wipe off the excess.

I've done the beeswax coating with a heat gun. Good results but takes a while.

Light coats of beeswax while smoking it at the same time and wipe with a soft cloth as you go.

There are all beeswax lip balm sticks at hippy store everywhere.

I occasionally wax and allow periods of rest. The secret to coloring a Meer is to smoke the bejayzus out of one Meer at a time for a month, then letting it rest. They like to be used.

I tried the oven method once. It was a lot of trouble for only marginal improvement in color. I since resigned myself to just letting the color come natural by smoking.

Of course my meers don't look nearly as cool as many of yours.

I used crayons to color the classroom radiator in the third grade. I can still see the trail of melting colors dribble down the hot metal.

I got in trouble.

Big trouble.

In 2nd grade, my best friend left the "Big Box" of crayons on the rear deck of his mom's Mercedes sedan in August...He was grounded for a while...A drag for me, as his family had a trampoline and with him grounded, he couldn't have friends over...

It figures the Mercedes kid would have the big box of crayons. I'll be they were name brand, too.

Anyone try a Burt's Bees lip balm while having a bowl in a meer? You could do a finger / thumb transfer and just rub it in while enjoying your favorite smoke of the moment.
