My favorite flavor we ever made was cantaloupe. It called for a really ripe melon, part diced and part pureed. It's exactly what summer should taste like.
We never did it when I was growing up, but later on with my own family, during the 80s, I saw a cooking show with Justin Wilson, who made cantaloupe sherbet and watermelon sherbet. I bought one of his books during that time, Outdoor Cooking with Inside Help, and made watermelon sherbet all summer long that year. Good times indeed.
