Either a spent 7.5x55 Swiss rifle brass case, or a .30-30 Winchester.
Most often a 3" long piece of fruitwood lopped off one of the trees.
When I'm organized, I'll find my Czech tool.

I used to use the bolster ends of a Old Timer 31OT pocket knife, but was informed not to abuse my pocket knives that way.

Mingkahuna? That's a blast from the past? A.S.P.?? Holy cow, what a great place that was. I'd tell you who I was but it was the early days of the internet and my handle was my actual name!

Thanks for triggering a few happy memories, sir.
I connected with Art at Ming a couple months ago and he is still going strong. I actually found so ASP stuff when we were packing to move including an ASP tamper.
I believe that Art may have passed, sadly. https://groups.google.com/g/alt.smokers ... ACgyyouG6M

Lately I've been using items found while beachcombing, such as various seashell cores, and also a dried fin and cartilage from a saltwater hardhead catfish.

I will smoke a pipe in his honor tonight using the tamper he made for me.

I smoked a bowl of Edgeworth Sliced last night in Art's honor. I used the Ming Kahuna tamper he made for me.

This is the second smoke I've had in the last 4 months for someone in my circle passing away.
