Gentlemen,

Let us meet in peace and unity.

Lake District is the correct term.

Samuel Gawith has many Balkan Branded blends.

Samuel Gawith has many VA blends.

Then there's

The Play-Doh top shelf all that is Lake District!

Ghost? An exorcist can't get Ennerdale out of a meer.

Hugo Drax wrote: 05 Sep 2022, 10:08And that's exactly what I meant. Del doesn't actually know what he's talking about, but that doesn't stop him from confidently writing absolute blither and passing it off as truth.

The Lakelands are a district in Cumbria. Lakeland tobaccos come from the Lake District. Grasmere, Windermere, Ennerdale...They're the names of local lakes and tobaccos produced near them. Lakeland are made by Sam Gawith and Gawith and Hoggarth.

St Bruno isn't a Lakeland tobacco. Ogden's was in Liverpool , and in any event, St Bruno is made in Denmark now, as is Erinmore. Condor is made in Poland.

And for the record, I frigging love St Bruno!
You are technically correct, Hugo Drax. And that is the most important kind of correct.

It's just that other blenders copied the floral style, and these have come to be called "lakeland" in a generic sense. Meanwhile, a number of blends from Kendal village in the Lake District of Cumbria, England (as I call it, "the Wisconsin of Great Britain") don't have any floral topping at all.

Well, I may be a great, big dummy.... but I do have a large stash of these tobaccos to share with Craig Thompson. Possession is 9/10ths of the law, you know.

Craig.... check these out on Tobacco Reviews. Pick some that interest you, and send me a PM.

Samuel Gawith varieties:
Best Brown Flake
St. James Flake
Kendal Cream
Navy Flake
Chocolate Flake
Firedance Flake

Gawith, Hoggarth & Co varieties
Scotch Mixture
No. 7 broken flake
Best Brown #2

Not really from the Lake District, but honorable mention as imitators of the style
Condor
St. Bruno
Erinmore Flake

This. Haven’t had it in a while, but EF is, by far, my favorite I’ve tried.
I third this. Great Lakeland tobacco.
I fourth this. Ennerdale is the best of the breed.

Standing by!

Sorry that I am all out of Ennerdale. That got smoked years ago.....

I was on pilgrimage in England several years ago. I visited a cigar and pipe tobacco shop in Stratford-upon-Avon and inquired about Ennerdale. The shop lady brought pulled out some flakes, beautifully coated with a sheen of virginia sugar crystals. "Oh my, this is covered in mold! I can't sell it."

I quickly explained that this wasn't mold, but "bloom" -- and highly prized by pipe smokers as a sign of mature aging. Can I have a couple of ounces, please! She doubled the weight that I ordered, and charged me for the 2 oz that I requested. It was still outrageously priced by American standards, but I was grateful all the same.

How often does one legitimately get to use magnanimous in writing or speech?

Plz keep that up. I fully support English as a language.

First time I've ever heard of this word.

For some reason, no one needed to use it in my vicinity.

Maybe they were all to shy to use such a wonderful word.

Said the guy that uses cloying in his pipe-bakky reviews.
