Your Life Verse?

What verse guides your life? Your touchstone that you revisit often. Might be from The Word, or your grandfather, or that homeless guy you bought lunch for one time.

My first is from St Paul - I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

It correlates with my second - Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.

Helps me see, even people who hate me, as part and parcel of God's plan. Enables me to love my enemies with a genuine brotherly affection.

Psalm 23 has always been a source of comfort for me.

Matthew 5: 1-12 is another one I use as a guide. So much so that I got a tattoo with the eight virtues on my chest as a reminder to meditate on those virtues daily as a measure of how well I'm living my life for Christ. It's a never ending exercise for me, unfortunately.

Pilate asked "What is truth?"

Truth is Christ. That's my bedrock.

Other verses grab me for their beauty or their truth or how they speak to me in a specific situation but that one rocks my world every time.

John 6:

53 Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. 55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.

Also, Mary's last words recorded in Scripture (from the Wedding at Cana):

5 His mother said to the servers, “Do whatever he tells you.”

Do whatever He tells you.
