A Genuine Surprise

In a year already full of life-changing upheavals, endings, and beginnings, comes the most surprising one of all.

We're pregnant.

This will be child number six. Our current oldest is 18. Our current youngest will be 8 next month. I thought I'd be a grandfather before I ever figured I'd be a father again. When my wife told me, I went through a genuine daze for about 12 hours. I really couldn't do anything more than just laugh.

If asked my opinion on which time in the last 20 years would be the absolute worst time for us to have a child I would pick right now. In so many ways I already felt like I'm dangling over a ledge. So part of me wonders if this is a bit the corner of God's mouth turn up in a wry grin. "Oh you thought you were in deep now? Just you wait!" But that grin is my comfort.

Anyway, I don't say that to dampen the gift of God, but maybe to highlight how big of a surprise this was to us. We are joyful, but shell shocked. And we are a smorgasbord of prayer requests. I'd direct you to the health of momma and child, but please take your pick!

Also, we haven't officially made this public yet. You guys get to be part of that special group of folks to get to know first. So if we're linked up on other social sites don't spill the beans!
