Just wondering where you shoot? I had been a member of a local club on the South side of the metro area. It was great, Indoor range for every thing up to 44 mag on the pistol bays and an underground 100 yard rifle tube, there is no staff to have to tip, it is member owned and there is 24/7 access. I let my membership lapse when we got the cabin, as there was an outdoor range at the property there. But with access to the cabin only 6 months out of the year, I wanted to re-join the local club again...so I found an area I could cut back on, budget wise and I re-joined the gun club. Its a great facility. Heading there today after work to run some rounds out of my project HD Military and the new to me Sportking. I am sure much fun will be had!

Congratulations. Sounds like a fun way to shoot.

My local outdoor range closed its doors a while back. It was a nice facility with handgun, rifle, and tactical options. Urban sprawl caught up to it over the years and area property owners attacked them with nuisance and safety concern litigation. That combined with the repercussions of a negligent discharge death on property became too much to fight. The next closest rifle range is an hour or more away and is experiencing similar area growth pressures. There are nice options farther out, but taking a whole day away from the house to shoot isn't an option right now.

We still have the choice of a few indoor, handgun caliber only ranges that are convenient. The facilities are nice, but they are not membership based and seem to attract an increased concentration of chuckleheads that I don't want to be in close quarters with. They do a good job with range officers and safety, but I hate shooting shoulder to shoulder with people I don't know.

I would really dig having a club with rifle ranges within a reasonable distance. I'd be happy to pay dues to have the improved atmosphere and camaraderie.

So, what's it like shooting in a tube?

Noisy...have to double up on hearing protection. Its a 10 foot round tube, about 4 feet under the surface. So dark and loud...but great for sighting in and working up loads.

I still prefer to shoot the rifles at the range at the cabin...but this is nice for when I am home in the winter. I need to get there more often than I do...something to work towards.

I seldom get to shoot rifles. I get a real "kick" out of shotguns though!
