Grandad's Pocket Knife...

Post by jmg »

My grandad, mom's father, passed away last year. I was helping out clearing some of his things from his house yesterday and was given one of his old pocket knives. Not sure exactly how old it is, but it's probably older than I am.

Been doing some research on the knife. Judging by the tang stamps, it was made between 1940-1964. Jigged bone handle, Barlow pattern, with a clip style blade.

I’ll have to make a video of its sharpness. It’s a testimony to my grandad’s manliness.

Nice! Yes, if it didn't have Case XX written on it I'd have said it was a Barlow.

What a treasure.

Don't want to start a knife fight, but that's not jigged bone. I have a few very old jigged bone pocket knives and they're worn a lot but you can still see jigging in some areas.

While technically I'm inclined to agree with you about it not being jigged, from my research it seems to be included in what Case referred to as jigged...even seems that "smooth" was in a jigged category of sorts.

Yeah, I think there needs to be a definition of "smooth".

Let's thank God that Case isn't in charge of standardizing pipe shape charts. Rusticated smooth bent rhodesian bulldog anyone?

Certainly not me until I was looking this up the other day.
