Gun style checkering on a pipe?

Well I am in gun finishing mode and working on/thinking about repointing the checkering on a Winchester model 70. I was looking for some hard wood to practice on, and then as I was pondering, I thought, 'Does anybody checker their pipes?

I do not believe I have ever seen any checkering on a pipe...I have an old pipe that needs a stem...I may play around with my checkering tools...

Most likely I will at best make a russification necessary or some pricey firewood.....

This whole line of thought is not to suggest that I have the first clue about using the checkering tools I have...so far all I have managed is expensive firewood

There's a pen made by Montblanc for Purdey that I'd buy if it wasn't several thousand dollars.

Right? But stoopid price.

I like the idea of making a pipe look like a gunstock. I'll be following this particular thread with interest.

Hovs needs a checkered pipe so that he has a good grip while race skiing.
