Will the Communist Party appointed, Pope Francis approved Catholic Bishops toe the party line, I wonder?

Depends on whether they want to keep their heads.

"Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul" (Matt10:28).
I am not as cool as JimVH. Nor or you. Well, unless you ARE JimVH.

According to the posted article, this is only the beginning of a projected 10-year translation project. So I'd imagine that the translation will be judged on its merits and/or demerits at that time. Although precautionary statements might be forthcoming, I have a hard time seeing Catholic authority flatly condemning the translation effort before it even produces any publicly-available results. A translation effort isn't intrinsically condemnable just because professing Communists are doing the translating or because The Party is funding the project.

FWIW, I doubt that any errors which may be in the final product will be as ham-fisted as the example adduced in the article, viz., that Jesus — rather than forgiving — stones the adulterous woman for bucking the The State.

Cardinal Zen likely saw this coming. The Curia, not so much.
