OFG Bass Guitar

Post about everything from carrying a handkerchief to manly skills (sharpening a pocket knife, etc), to product reviews of items that may have slipped inder our radar (ie Grandpa's Pine Tar soap). No threads on anything 'new' unless it hearkens to old-fashioned sensibilities and ideals.

I snagged a real nice 5 string from a neighbor who lives close by a while back and I had some time to work on it today.

I started off by putting a spare set of Schaller S locks on the body.

Then I adjusted the neck. It didn’t work when I plugged into an amp but a quick solder job on one of the pots solved that, also the pick guard was severely warped, so much so the pick up was actually buried under it. It must’ve sat next to a heater or something, not sure.

I put the pick guard in the oven for a few minutes and then put a glass dish on top of it while it cooled. I did have to file the pup opening quite a bit and the edges at the top to get it back on BUT It’s now flat as one of Jim Van Halen’s dad jokes.

This is my first 5 string and it took a bit of practice to be able to play ANYTHING at all because of that B string that I’m not accustomed to and the string spacing is smaller but man, I love it!

Time to learn some Doom now that I have a low B!
