Time to fire up the forge?

I've got a few pieces of vanadium alloy steel. Is this a good steel for knife making?

One way to find out.

I own a Case Sodbuster jr. with a CV blade and it keeps a very nice edge.

It depends entirely on what the vanadium is alloyed with. Was it sold for knife making or is it and old wrench you found laying in the ditch?

It was once part of a Model T Ford steering rod someone had practiced welding on. I also have a few broken leaf springs from the same basket.

It'll probably make a crap knife, but hey, it's fun banging on steel. And like JoC0se wrote, there's only one way to find out.
