The OFG Shaving Soap

Post about everything from carrying a handkerchief to manly skills (sharpening a pocket knife, etc), to product reviews of items that may have slipped inder our radar (ie Grandpa's Pine Tar soap). No threads on anything 'new' unless it hearkens to old-fashioned sensibilities and ideals.

The OFG Shaving Soap

Post by Jocose »

Happy to report the Akron shaving soap is an amazing product with a great scent. It’s been around forever and performs well.

I also broke out an old stash of my favorite (German made) Wilkinson Sword razor blades. I read that Wilkinson are now owned by Gillette and are now made in India and China, I don’t know how those compare to the German made.

The (German made) Wilkinson blades are durable (long lasting) and sharp (aggressive) with no irritation and have (yet) to nick or cut my face unlike the Dorco HQ blades that I bought off of Amazon.

I’d like to try some other blades at some point.

I still straight razor shave with a DOVO Bismark exclusively and have used Colonel Conk Bay Rum shave soap for as long and really like it. I'm not sure what all the fuss about straight razor shaving being time consuming is all about. I put a new edge on it about once a year which takes about 20 minutes at most and take about a minute and a half to strop before each shave. Smooth as a babies butt. YMMV.

Oh no. It's as smooth as many babies' butts.

I was thinking about getting another straight razor and strop but the DE shave is so easy (and close) that I may not bother, or maybe I will just for fun, dunno yet… stay tuned.

In other news, I found out if I don’t use shave oil before lathering up I get a much better shave with no nicks or cuts when using the Dorco HQ blades either that or I had a bum blade right off the bat OR perhaps I misaligned the blade on that first try.

I bought a Razor Blade Straight Razor. It uses a 1/2 razor blade and it gives a great shave! No strop needed.

I may get a nice straight razor down the line but this will work just as well for now.
