This time of year, I miss good tomatoes. The ones at the grocery store I find are terrible----they don't even smell like tomatoes!
This makes me think of home grown tomatoes and contemplating which varieties I'd like to plant.
Being too early to start a garden thread, I thought I'd ask here---what varieties of tomatoes work well for you?
What do you plan on starting after the danger of frost has passed?

I usually always grow Better Boys. And the last couple years I've been growing Cherokee Purples. They are not as prolific, but probably my favorite tomato. Also, last year I grew Romas, and good grief, they produced a ton. I'll definitely be growing a lot more of them as they are great for making sauces and jarring.

Better Boy, Beefsteak, and Celebrity are popular here in SETX. Last year I tried a hybrid from our local feed store but I can't immediately recall the name; I'll need to look it up for planting again this spring. Back in the 80s there was a variety called Gulf Coast that was great; I don't know what became of that variety.

I see Del ascribes to the Presidents of the United States of America theory of gardening as espoused in their hit song/gardening tutorial "Peaches".

This year I'm going with an Early Girl, some Better Boys, and a few Celebrity tomatoes.

What I need is a new roto-tiller, and a recommendation for one that will last longer than a couple of years. My last one was an on sale model from Tractor Supply, whatever brand it was, and it was junk. I took it to a shop and told them to keep it, if they would, and they did, for various parts.
